This Is Hong Kong

i don't think i grew up reading miroslav sasek's beautifully illustrated books, but there is something about his "this is" series which overpowers me with childhood memories.

not sure where i first saw it, but i was thrilled to see sasek had released a "this is hong kong" book way back in 1965 and again reissued in 2007.
apparently it was one of his favorite but most difficult books to do.

"I loved Hong Kong because of Hong Kong. Hong Kong was a hard book to do because of the language problem. It took me hours and hours to draw the characters of the alphabet. I tried to use a camera but it didn’t work. Sometimes I could have screamed! Three times, ten times, twelve times over it took me to perfect one picture!"
Miroslav Sasek

as my little one will be born (but maybe not raised) in hong kong i thought it would be a great book to buy.
i know, i know! i'm totally crazy to even think about buying children books for an unborn child...
obviously the fatherly instincts which i never knew i had have kicked into motion.

shock horror when i went to the book store only to find out there is no stock in hong kong, and no stock with at the distributor so i can't even order it!
looks like i'm gonna have to purchase it online.

so do any of you guys out there own a "this is..." book?
check out the other books in the series at the official website.
