kei-tora debut

as you probably know by now on any given weekend you can find me sitting in a cafe enjoying a strong coffee and flicking through a magazine.
yesterday i willingly (??) stepped out of my comfort zone to help otoosan with his maki tsukuri (薪づくり); cutting up logs for winter.
the winters in this part of the woods are harsh so like a bear has to prepare to hibernate, so do we.
k-chan's family need a lot; and i mean a lot of wood to burn as the heat from these logs both heat the house and the water for our nightly baths.

as otoosan is still recovering from his operation i collected all the logs and stacked them into the back of his kei-tora (軽トラ); mini-truck and then drove back home to unload and stack the logs into the shed. did around three trips of this heavy "mans" work. although i'm more than too happy to help out otoosan i've realized i'm more of an office-man than a out-doorsy-hard-labour type of guy.

oh and you should have seen some of the funny looks i got from people waiting at the traffic lights. believe me it's not a common sight to see a gaijin wearing tsunagi (overalls) driving a kei-tora piled up with logs around here!

otoosan just told me he needs my help again next week as there are still a few more loads of logs left...
just hope my aching bum and thighs have recovered by then.
and don't ask me why i have a sore butt; i have no idea!

Everything about this post cracks me up, and that includes you in tsunagi. You're such a good omukosan, ne. good luck next week as well!

oh wow! my 'wow' is not because a gaijin is driving a kei-tora with tsunagi on. K-chan's house is so awesome! her house can be heated with logs? even hot water! that is just too cool!!!!

Please please post something on how it's heated (w/logs) with photos one day :D

I wish I had a fireplace in my house. That would never happen!

Otoosan wanted to buy bright yellow tsunagi but I persuaded him to get me the gray one; thank god! I even had gray leather gloves to match. Couldn't figure how to tie that white towel around my head like the other ガテン guys though...

Gotta say it's a cool house; very homely!
I'll try to take a photo of how the bath is heated and the stove in the living room.
I love the sound of a crackling fire!

You'll be pleased (??!) to know that I was pretty much naked under that outfit. I got way too hot with jeans on so has to strip off.

Oh darn. You just wiped away all the intelligently-thought-out comment I was gonna leave you after reading your post with your "I was pretty much naked under that outfit" bit.

Yummy... :P

yellow ones don't go well with my coloring *wink wink*

it's a very traditional house; lots of interesting stuff lying around. oh, and that spray-can art work was done by k-chan's brother.
