i've come to love a relaxing weekend yum cha (飲茶) (lit. "drink tea").
i used to think it was chaotic and not at all relaxing. for one the noise level is close to that of a jet.
well not quite, but with hundreds of hong kong-ese babbling away in that delightful language called cantonese, the clanking of chipped tea pots connecting with cracked tea cups, it all adds up to make a pretty noisy environment.
but believe me, living in hong kong causes your ears to become accustom to such noise.
i have now learnt how to block out the migraine-causing background noise and enjoy the company of friends while indulging in the delicious dim sum (點心) treats served at yum cha.
i don't need to enjoy yum cha every weekend but it's nice once in a while.
believe it or not it's actually quite a good cure for a hangover...
must be that constant drinking of tea that does the trick!

curry at yum cha? with dong lai cha?!
sounds more like a cha-chaan-teng to me!
cha-chaa-teng! lol. Is there a offical english name for those places?
Just went Yumcha today. And noticed if it weren't for the Teas we'd be getting stomach-aches each time coz of all the oil...

the only name i can think which works for a hong kong cha-chaa-teng would be a "hong kong diner". good enough?
mmm, must admit i wish they could cut back on the oil... do dim sums really need to be made with so much oil?!
I LOVE yum cha!! I miss Hong Kong. When I was living in Manila, I spent Christmas holidays (Western, not the Chinese) in Hong Kong (Causeway Bay and Kowloon). Yum Cha is my fave meal! And by the way, you'll just LOVE Marrakech. You will go crazy with your camera!! Happy New Year!
