i'm not into dresses but it seems i once wore one.
not quite sure what these are called, maybe ceremonial dresses?
but back in the day new born babies wore delicate white dresses (maybe they are called gowns?) to celebrate their birth.
my mum gave us this gown which apparently i wore when i was born.
it was handmade complete with smocking by my nana.
the tiny bonnet was the same bonnet which my dad wore when he was a baby! now hows that for special!
for a 61-year old bonnet it's in great condition don't you think?
i still can't believe that in a few weeks time i'm going to be dressing my own baby in these treasured heirlooms.
my nana who is now in her 80s knitted us some cute sweaters.
even though she says her eyes aren't like they used to be, judging from the quality of these sweaters there is nothing wrong with her eyesight!
gotta love those nana-colors too.
god, my photoshop cutting is shocking...
my mum even pulled out the knitting needles and knitted her first ever sweater in a soft brown merino wool with natural wooden buttons.
looks like mum's first grandchild is going to be a spoilt
and my sister spotted these cute hand-crafted leather sandals while on holiday in mexico along with this huge colorful zarape rug.
auntie A has officially scored brownie points with her big brother.
i think we have just about bought everything we will need for "the big day" and those first few weeks.
i'm feeling less anxious now about becoming a dad and more excited as the days tick by.

Aww, the smock is adorable! Bet you'd love daddyhood! :)
Oh how cute are they? Not just the look but the loving history and thoughts in them. The long white Lacey dressesfor babies are called christening gown by some. My first Design for baby suits were inspired by them. The ones sent to you are the newer modern ones so they are not long though :) should be there soon!! So excited for the coming of your little one.:)
Family heirlooms are always lovely for newborns/babies. Although once you get older and are given this cousin's clothes, they're now called second hand clothes. Ha ha!
Definitely excited for that baby. You'd be amazed at how fast they grow, that the clothes don't fit anymore. But do enjoy them while they fit! (I wish those sandals came in adult size too!)
I have my christening gown still with me, and can't wrap around the thought that I was that tiny before. Haha!
We're all sure you'd be a great dad, and together with k-chan you'd both be wonderful parents!
exciting times for you guys!
wishing you all the best for the next few weeks!!
ps. and i love the nana colours :)

oh i know, the history behind these things is what amazes me the most.
the little bonnet is so delicate now i'm even afraid to hand-wash it!
i think will just pop it on our babies head, take a quick photo and then take it off again.

thank you~
yup, these great nana-colors were hand stitched all the way from that little town with the flat roofs hahahaha!
my nana lived in a "normal" house though.
it's really wonderful that it's the same thing your father wore when he was a baby. take good care of it!
the sweaters are adorable too. lucky you to have a nana who is so good at knitting!
you and k-chan must be so excited about becoming parents!
