matsutake : マツタケ

ok, i've finally made it back to japan.
still can't believe that my seven years of living in hong kong have actually come to an end...

last week was a toughy.
had a mad few days of sorting out my life's possessions before the removal company came in and wrapped everything in bubble wrap.
even though i ending up selling/throwing out/giving to charity so much stuff i still had over 50 boxes to ship to japan!!

our little family of three spent our last night in hong kong at the marriott hotel near the airport where we splashed out on room service (so not worth it...) but hey, it was our last night.
had an early morning start (5am!) and finally arrived in nagano at 7pm.
why did it take us so long? well we chilled out in the breast-feeding room at ueno station for like three hours as all the blimmin shinkansen (bullet trains) were full due to a long weekend.
you should have seen the look on some of the japanese mum's faces as they opened the door to see a sleepy gaijin dude sprawled out on the sofa.

so i'm now in nagano at k-chan's jikka totally relaxed in the kotatsu eating the highly sort after matsutake mushroom.
to be honest i don't really get what all the fuss is with this mushroom. this year they are in abundance so selling much cheaper than usual but we still had to fork out close to 5000 yen for these. crazy.

off to softbank now; gonna buy a new mobile; iPhone4. yippie!

You are in Japan! welcome to the land of rising sun!
Those Matsutake look real nice and being an asian, it was always a treat for us. I don't know why... only because they are not abundant I guess...

Anyways, enjoy the weather!

You're in Japan! 50 boxes are a lot! We really do accumulate so much stuff throughout our lives! Which reminds me...we, too, should start purging before winter comes :)

50 boxes...makes me dizzy just thinking about it. but in any case, i'm glad for you that the pain-in-the-ass part is over now, and you are safely back in japan. welcome back.

kotatsu...is it that chilly already in nagano!?

Welcome back to Japan :) wow! kotatsu already!!? I'm still wearing my summer clothes in Tokyo. so warm :o

50 boxes!!! Oh no...I hope I can pack my stuff in less than 10 boxes!?

p/s: I don't think I've ever tasted those wild matsutake.

it's nice to be back but I still kinda feel like I'm here on a holiday. I guess once I find a place to live it will feel more concrete.
Have you had your taste of this years autumn matsutake yet?

Purging before winter sounds like a plan. Starting to feel winters icy fingers here all ready!

It's shocking to think that I went to hong kong with "A" suitcase and left with 50+ boxes... (and a baby!!)
And yup, nights are getting chilly up here in Nagano. Nothing beats veging out in the kotatsu even if it is at my in-laws place.

Amazing that I'm just a hop skip and a jump from Tokyo yet we are already getting comfortable in the kotatsu. But don't worry, your time will come (^-^)/

You should try some matsutake. Matsutake gohan is pretty good!

Luckly the removal company did all the packing but it was still a huge pain in the ass to get everything organized. Anyway glad it's all over now. Setting up a new house is always more exciting.

iPhone is taking a bit of time to get used to, but it's fun when I have the time.

Yeah, a cute, sleeping gaijin on the sofa wasn't probably on top of their minds when those Japanese moms entered the breastfeeding room at the station. :P

As for the iPhone4... hmm, I wonder if I should get this instead of the BlackBerry that my company is offering me? Hmm...

oh definitely go for the iPhone 4; it's great; easy to use too.
blackberries (blackberry's?) are too serious.
