my new green-curtain

thank god monday's over; I so hate mondays.
today I had to write a letter to the CEO of one of the biggest corporations (in the top 10) in the world.
how's that for a freaky start to the week!

anyway, have you heard of green curtain?
it's not a "curtain" curtain but rather a curtain made out of lush green foliage which you grow outside of your window.
apparently by growing a green curtain you can reduce the temperate inside your house by around 2 degrees.
they also look nice too and offer a bit of privacy.

after walking around my neighborhood its easy to see that they are the in thing at the moment in my little suburban tokyo neighborhood.
couldn't resist but get in one the fun so yesterday I drove to the local hardware store and purchased myself a big flower pot, some dirt, couple of stakes, a net, and some plants.
most people around here are growing goya which is a bitter gourd popular in okinawa, but I went for yorugau; moonflower, from the morning glory family only because I though the odd flower would look better than some gourd hanging outside my window.

as you can see I'm in need of some privacy so I'm looking forward to my green curtain to start winding itself up the net.

can you see kou-chan on the sofa to the right? he can now get on and off the sofa or bed by himself!

Oh wow thats gonna look nice. my mother grew morning glories and moon flowers when i was a kid. MY favorites were the moon flowers because their white blooms were so beautiful at night. I believe the luna moth pollinates them too.I have never seen one in person though. She also told me to not eat the seeds because they are hallucinagenic. your home looks so neat and orderly...im jealous.

ooh, did you go for goya or moonflowers?
any flowers or fruit yet?

luna moths!!? they better not come and visit my flowers. I'm not really into moths with their big bellies and dusty wings...

looking forward to my plant going to seed. haven't had a hallucinogenic experience for some time now...

since this post it's grown quite a lot (my green curtain that is)

the carpet/rug was a gift from pakistan so it's pretty special.
the sofa we purchased just reciently. i was thinking of introducing the craftman of these comfy chairs as they are hand-made in hiroshima.
love buying local!

That's actually a great idea. We have a small "garden" in our balcony but a green curtain would be nice outside our bedroom window. We have morning glory flowers too, but I've never seen them in nurseries here... more of a roadside crawler?

so you want a green curtain outside your bedroom window so nobody can see your morning glory?

It looks nice! I bet my wife would love it if I placed one of this at her kitchen's door and windows to match her garden view of our backyard. The kitchen windows are a bit plain, and I was wondering whether I should replace them with wider windows or grow some of this. I think I'll go for this after seeing what you have done with it!
